So the Gibson Custom Shop has created the ES-339—an electric guitar that is built to the design ethos of its predecessor the ES-335, but is fashioned to proportions closer to those of the legendary Gibson solid bodies such as the Les Paul and SG. The Gibson ES-339 gently arched top with real F-holes, thinline semi-hollow body, solid maple center block to reduce feedback and enhance sustain, rounded symmetrical cutaways with unparalleled upper-fret access are all here, minus a little of the bulk and weight! The Gibson ES-339 also has some exciting enhancements of its own including Memphis Tone electronics, the 30/60 slender neck profile, side-mounted output jack, and reduced dimensions and weight. With its vintage vibe and modern performance, the Gibson Custom ES-339 is a great all-around electric guitar for any style of music. Body and Finish The top, back and sides of the Gibson ES-339 are crafted with the same pressed-arch, laminated-maple with solid maple centerblock construction that was used by Gibson to produce the first ES-335 guitars 52 years ago, but the Gibson ES-339 guitar is made to more compact dimensions closer to those of Gibson’s solidbody electric guitars. The Gibson ES-339 limited electric guitar comes in ebony or natural lacquer finishes. Neck and Headstock The Gibson Custom Shop ES-339’s neck and headstock are made in the classic tradition of several great Gibson guitars, including that of its larger predecessor, the original ES-335. Carved from a single piece of quarter-sawn mahogany and topped with a rosewood fingerboard, the design incorporates Gibson’s lauded 17-degree back-angled headstock, which contributes greatly to the electric guitar’s resonance and sustain. Developed in assistance from guitar guru Jon Schwartz, the 30/60 slender neck is a ’60s s

With all the fat, sweet, snarling Les Paul tone that purists love, the new Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro sports a mahogany body with a thick maple cap for the perfect blend of warmth and clarity. The top is finished in high-gloss lacquer, while the back, sides, and neck have a smooth satin finish that feels great and lets the wood resonate fully. Each Les Paul Traditional also comes with Gibson USA’s standard black snakeskin case. Period-Correct Pickguard The creme-colored pickguard has been a Les Paul staple dating back to the models of the late 1950s and the early 1960s. Many players, however, removed the pickguard from their Les Pauls to show off the beauty of the flame maple tops, prompting Gibson to stop installing the pickguard altogether. During the 1980s and 1990s, Gibson began reinstalling the pickguard in the factory, and the Les Pauls from this era once again arrived in stores bearing the classic, creme-colored pickguard. The Les Paul Traditional comes equipped with a period-correct pickguard, designed to protect the maple top. For the first few years of their productions—1955 to 1961—Gibson’s PAF humbuckers were wound using imprecise machines, resulting in pickups with slightly different output and tone. The BurstBucker 3 and ‘57 Classic Plus pickups are the result of Gibson’s drive to capture and recreate this characteristic. Introduced in 1992, the ‘57 Classic provides warm, full tone with a balanced response, packi

Les Paul himself didn’t like it so the Les Paul stuck to its original style and the new Les Paul design was renamed the SG Standard. Even though Les Paul didn’t approve of it, countless rockers loved it and made it one of all-time hard rockin’ favorites. Like all VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Series instruments, the SG Standard VOS is handcrafted for comfort and playability in the Gibson Custom Shop. The construction, neck profile, hardware, and electronics are period accurate, and a special nitrocellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently aged vintage guitar. Includes Gibson Custom Shop case, and a certificate of authenticity.

You still get the dynamic, slim mahogany body and hair-trigger quick neck that have made the SG a workhorse guitar, yet without all the non-essentials. The ultra-affordable price tag on this electric guitar is owed to fewer coats of finish than can be found on the traditional SG Standard and SG Special. This stripped-down finishing process means that not only will you enjoy more resonance, but you’ll be the proud owner of an SG that looks straight out of the ’60s. The Gibson SG Special is uncivilized. It’s fierce. And it’s got to hang in your guitar rack. Solid Mahogany Body Probably the most central of all the SG Special’s features is its solid mahogany body—lightweight, strong, with a thick, warm tone. The mahogany goes through the same rigorous selection process as all of Gibson’s woods, and is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson’s team of skilled wood experts before it enters the Gibson factories. Inside the Gibson factories, humidity is maintained at 45 percent, and the temperature at 70 degrees. This ensures all woods are dried to a level of equilibrium, where the moisture content does not change during the manufacturing process. This guarantees tight-fitting joints and no expansion, in addition to reducing the weight. It also helps with improving the woods’ machinability and finishing properties. Consistent moisture content means that a Gibson guitar will respond evenly to temperature and humidity changes long after it leaves the factory. ’50s Rounded Neck Profile No guitar neck profiles are more distinguishable than the neck profiles employed on the Gibson models of today. The guitar’s more traditional ’50s neck profile on the SG Special is the thicker, rounder profile, emulating the neck shapes found on the iconic 1958 and 1959 Les Paul Standards. The neck is machined in Gibson’s rough mill using wood shap

This beauty also features trapezoid inlays along its elegantly bound 22-fret rosewood fingerboard while a fine mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and holly inlay decorate the guitar’s headstock. Solid Mahogany Body Probably the most central of all Gibson SG features is its solid mahogany body. The mahogany goes through the same rigorous selection process as all of Gibson’s woods, and is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson’s team of skilled wood experts before it enters the factories. Inside the Gibson factories, humidity is maintained at 45 percent, and the temperature at 70 degrees. This ensures all woods are dried to a level of equilibrium, where the moisture content does not change during the manufacturing process. This guarantees tight-fitting joints and no expansion, and controls the shrinkage and warping of the woods, in addition to reducing the weight. It also improves the woods’ machinability and finishing properties. Consistent moisture content means that the Gibson SG will respond evenly to temperature and humidity changes long after it leaves the factory. Set-Neck Construction Like all classic Gibson guitars, the necks on SGs are distinguished by one of the more traditional features that have always set them apart — a glued neck joint. Gluing the neck to the body of the guitar ensures a “wood-to-wood” contact, no air space in the neck cavity, and maximum contact between the neck and body, allowing the neck and body to function as a single unit. The result? Better tone, better sustain, and no loose or misaligned necks. The ‘61 thin flat “speed neck” profile gives you effortless playing speed and comfort.
